Memtro vs mem0
A memory layer you add to your own agent code, versus a memory that sits in front of the tools your team already uses.
This comparison describes mem0 as we understand it at the time of writing from its public documentation. Products change; check the current details before deciding.
mem0 is a memory layer for AI applications: an SDK and API that stores and retrieves memories for users, sessions and agents, available as open source and as a hosted service. You call it from your own application code around your own model calls.
Memtro is a memory that sits in front of the tools a team already uses. It is an OpenAI-compatible endpoint plus an MCP server: existing clients (Cursor, Open WebUI, OpenCode, Claude Code, the OpenAI SDKs) point at it and get memory, read-only connector tools, model routing, agent mode and scheduled jobs without application code.
Where they differ
| Memtro | mem0 | |
|---|---|---|
| Shape | Proxy endpoint and MCP server in front of your tools and models | SDK and API you integrate into your own app |
| Who writes code | Nobody, for the common case: point a client at the endpoint | Your developers, around each model call |
| Where facts come from | Conversations and tool results from connected systems, plus hourly syncs | What your application chooses to store |
| Connectors | Fifteen read-only connectors with purpose-built tools and anchoring into the graph | Not a focus; you fetch external data yourself |
| Scope | Personal and shared, classified per fact | Per user, agent and session, as your app decides |
| Models | Bring your own keys; routing by difficulty; Claude Code and OpenCode engines | Your model calls, your choice |
| Scheduling | Jobs created from chat | Not a focus |
| Hosting | Hosted platform | Open source or hosted |
When to choose which
Choose mem0 when you are building an application and want a memory primitive inside it. Choose Memtro when you want your team's existing tools to share one memory and reach into your systems, without building an application at all. The two can coexist: an app built on mem0 can still call Memtro for company context.
